Keytarists Exist!?!
So I did some research for bands other than the ones I already know of (Cobra Starship, The Click Five, and The Medic Droid) that had a Keytar. Here’s what I found, and my opinions on them.
Note: I’m trying to avoid old school 80s bands. There were Keytars all over the place in the 80s! Hahah. These are all more 21st century bands.
1. Family Force 5 - Earthquake ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0N-NjP2HjR4&feature=related ) A little on the heavy side, but I will admit that something about this song does make me want to thrash around and go crazy. Interestingly enough, I’ve been avoiding this band purely because I wasn’t interested. Who knew they had a Keytar!? And I do kind of give them props for being so hardcore with the Keytar.
2. Freezepop - Less Talk More Rokk ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVIhIc_DfaM ) Whoa, this band is purely Keytar driven. Very ‘Teeny Bopper’. I’m not a huge fan of the music actually, but I don’t hate it. And I dig their Keytarness ;) *Bias*
3. So So Modern - Loose Threads and Theramins ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKyXzWf3u_8 ) Again, not really a fan, but worth going on the Keytar list. Hahah.
4. Shy Child - Drop The Phone ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aONAuZd-L0A ) I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS. I listened to it once and got hooked. Not only do I think they made amazing music using only drums and a Keytar, I think the Keytarist/Vocalist is sexy in a weird Pete Wentz-ish sort of way, with his hoodies and his swooshie black hair. Hah. I also checked out their other songs and loved them. Jackpot!
5. Hyper Crush - The Arcade ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dpC7FTl00Q) Well this is… interesting. Hah That’s all I can find to say about it. Electro-rap? Well it’s not what I’m really into, but I guess the music video was… fun, in a way. But really, leave the bright neon to Cobra Starship. :P
Oh, and for all you guys who think the Keytar is a ‘lame’ or ‘useless’ instrument…
Shut the fuck up and don’t buy one.
