praying for iran
the coverage of the post-election protests and rioting are pissing me off
because of the fucking condescension of western onlookers
“they’re recognizing a corrupt election”
“they’re finally taking control and becoming a free nation”
“i’m glad they’re trying to join the west”
well you know what?
i don’t think that’s necessarily the fucking point
too often in the so-called enlightened “west” we put up with pretty shady and corrupted shit
elections, reports, memoranda, refusals to prosecute, refusals to stop prosecuting,
torture, sexual abuse, domestic terrorism, bullshit media instigators—
we put up with really fucked up shit
and we have yet to burn buses in our streets at 3 a.m.
and we have yet to pull some motherfuckers out in the street and surround them
and disarm them
and tell them they have ten minutes to explain themselves
or they’re becoming the flagpole of the new order that will walk us into peace:
we don’t DO that.
we have plenty of reason to do that and we do not
we have no right to sit on the sideline waving banners for the west as a better landmark for this people
as they get their first tastes of western-style corruption and generally fucked-up applications of democracy
as they have people dying in their streets and being slaughtered for peaceful protest
we have no claim to this fight and we have no say in how it turns out
a free iran would spit on our streets and we’d deserve it
so many free nations with bodies strewing the walkways would spit on our streets
and we’d deserve it
and they have to right to ask us when we’ll pull our heads out of the asses of our scorecards
and join the world.
